The five candidates spoke harshly of the United Nations and international treaties.
... When asked about the U.N., Durant said the United States should leave the international body. He believes a new "united body" should be created. "I would take an effort to re-establish a new united body of people across the world that seek freedom and want to be a part of a universal body who emulates what we have established," he added.
Besides the U.N., international treaties were also not favored by any of the candidates.

  2. Although the Michigan 4 Conservatives Senate debate did not attract all eight candidates hoping to be the GOP contender for U.S. Senate, it did attract a full house.

The debate, on the campus of Central Michigan University, was sponsored by both MI4CS and Campus Conservatives.

MI4CS is a coalition of 55 Tea Party groups throughout the state that have banded together to elect a "Constitutional Conservative" candidate to the U.S. Senate.

The five candidates spoke harshly of the United Nations and international treaties.

"I would oppose any treaty and refuse to advise in favor of it if it was at all crafted to remove any rights from the people within any of the states as well as violating any Constitutional rights," candidate Scotty Boman said. Boman is a physics and astronomy instructor. He ran for the same seat in 2008 as a libertarian and came in third in the general election.

"I am also opposed to any type of taxpayer funding to the U.N. or any participation by the United States in the U.N.," Boman said.

Also at the debate were: Clark Durant, former vice president of Hillsdale College and founder of Imprimis; Gary Glenn, president of the American Family Association of Michigan and co-author of the Marriage Protection Amendment to the Michigan Constitution; Randy Hekman, a Navy veteran, former prosecutor and juvenile court judge; and Chuck Marino, who established National Building Inspections and is the former executive manager of two international companies.

Candidate Peter Konetchy declined to participate and candidates Pete Hoekstra and Rick Wilson did not respond.

When asked about the U.N., Durant said the United States should leave the international body. He believes a new "united body" should be created. "I would take an effort to re-establish a new united body of people across the world that seek freedom and want to be a part of a universal body who emulates what we have established," he added.

Glenn said Barack Obama and U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow "threaten" to take away certain rights which could lead to a socialist country.

"If Barack Obama and Debbie Stabenow are re-elected and given the chance to finish the job of implementing their agenda, they threaten to take away my children's birth right of freedom and turn our county into the United Socialist States of America," he said.

During the debate, Glenn also said he would reduce or eliminate the federal inheritance tax, capital gains tax, personal income tax and corporate income tax. He said he would replace those taxes with a "fair" tax.

Besides the U.N., international treaties were also not favored by any of the candidates.

Hekman, a father of 12, said he would fight any effort that would give American sovereignty to an international body, including the U.N. He also said the national debt is a "house that is on fire."

"We've got to cut that back," Hekman said. "Repealing Obamacare has to be at the top of our agenda."

Marino said he would make a balanced budget amendment a top priority, and added he believes the U.N. is only in it for the money and power.

"They want to influence a cash stream for themselves. They inject things like global warming. I'm here to tell you global warming is the biggest hoax."
