Bridgend’S library could be entering a new chapter after council bosses opened up on plans to move it to the town’s recreation centre.
Public consultation on the proposed move from the library’s traditional Wyndham Street home to Bridgend Recreation Centre began last week and was set to last three months.
Project leaders said they want the library service in Bridgend to be more accessible to disabled users, better equipped and open for longer.
Announcing the consultation period, a council spokesman said: “The council also wants to consider ways in which it can introduce improvements such as offering a greater selection of books and lending materials, boosting activities for children and adults, providing better ICT services, making the library fully accessible for disabled people and introducing new facilities which are not currently available at Bridgend Library such as toilets, baby changing areas and car parking.”

Library to serve disabled, senior, less educated, mother/father with small children, library a place to serve free continued education for those unable to pay but want to learn with guidance, learn how to learn…
ReplyDeleteEven library's mission a good intention, but that is not improve the library, but only reduce fund and possible of destroy library of its good intention?
21 century library lost its original intention? Library felt now less helped for self-learners, librarians are unable to answer all the IT related questions?
but library still able to help those unable to self-teach, self-learn group, so they give up their originality, seek solution becomes a struggle, money, funding is not coming next year, so library becomes moneyless, powerless...
if 21 century library's direction change toward only serving those unfortunate group, the problem of funding support to modernize and improvement of library, pay with IT knowledgeable librarians still possible?
if library without knowledgeable librarians, If library without quality Liberians can library still remain as library?
Should library remain to serve for all?
will people accept of library with lined up of kindles, nooks, e-grouped every categorized on actual shelf and maintained by librarian and loan to public?
Should library also change direction to become semi-private public cooperate owned with neighborhood of their local private/public owned companies support, (the company can choose to pay fee to library association, or send each of their staff to various local areas libraries for a day of volunteer service? local family also pay their kind annual fees to their choice of local library? Government still contribute depend on local tax received?
Should Library association to fair allocation the money to each library based on local library’s monthly report and to even and reduce the gap among rich and poor libraries?
Without library’s existence in the future,
will the gap of those educated and uneducated groups get even deeper?
Do we wish libraries survive to serve all? Or vote library to move out of your neighborhoods?
Can people find different solution and maybe think of shift and share burden among government,local private cooperation companies, also among the people who uses libraries?
Will you go visit your library, if the library walls are made of many invisible PC screen, you can plug your ear phone and learning start with movie, music, story, knowledge of any kind…the chair you sit are not individual, but like the stadium benched rows, (each e-wall come with 3 rows of benches)
will you go to library to borrow nook or kendle instead of books?
Library is for all, even including of our modern lovers, they sit side by side next to each other and hold hand occasionally watch and listen to their different movies and music…
accept as is, take or leave attitude, then relationship perish, library moves out of where they belong
