The United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence against Women, managed by UN Women, supports initiatives around the world to bring about real change in the lives of women, girls and their communities. Since its establishment in 1996, the UN Trust Fund has supported 339 programmes in 127 countries and territories with over US$ 78 million.

Much has been achieved, but much more needs to be done, and demand far outstrips the funding available: in 2011, the Fund received grant requests totaling USD 1.2 billion, but could offer only USD 17.1 million in grants to 22 initiatives in 34 countries. In order to meet the growing need for resources to translate global and national commitments into action, the United Nations Secretary-General’s UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign has set a target to raise USD 100 million for the UN Trust Fund’s annual grant-making by 2015.
